The convention on music and sound in film and the media
An unconventional artist, but one "with a big heart" (Jean-Jacques
Annaud) - OSCAR winner Gabriel Yared (BETTY BLUE; THE ENGLISH
PATIENT; THE LIVES OF OTHERS) is one of film music's greats. At the
SoundTrack_Cologne 4.0 he won't keep his cards - or scores - close to
his chest. In Cologne he will encounter further illustrious guests from the
world of film, who will also provide an insight into their work: They are
LOLA winner for BEST SCORE Gerd Baumann (GRAVE DECISIONS;
HEAVYWEIGHTS), Niki Reiser (NOWHERE IN AFRICA; GO FOR ZUCKER!)
and Bert Wrede (TOUGH ENOUGH), sound re-recording mixer and sound
editor Matthias Lempert (LOLA for PERFUME: THE STORY OF A
MURDERER), as well as director Stefan Ruzowitzky (ANATOMY). His haunting drama
THE COUNTERFEITERS was premiered in competition at the 2007 Berlinale.

The convention on music and sound in film and the media
HIGH ENERY - with this motto SoundTrack_Cologne, the Cologne convention on music and
sound in film and the media, enters its fourth round. One of the focal points of the pro-
gramme, which will also include a master class, is dedicated to Gerd Baumann, the winner of
the German Film Award 2007 for BEST SCORE and composer of GRAVE DECISIONS and
HEAVYWEIGHTS. In cooperation with Deutsche Filmakademie SoundTrack_Cologne will pres-
ent another LOLA winner - Niki Reiser. Reiser will, among other things, provide a live com-
mentary on the OSCAR success NOWHERE IN AFRICA, for the music of which he received
the 2002 German Film Award. Reiser is a four-time winner of the German Film Award, most
recently for GO FOR ZUCKER! in 2005.
