Competition for Young Upcoming Composers and Sound Designers – Create Your Own World of Music and Sounds!
Join the European Talent Competition in the categories film music composition and sound design! Win a one day recording session with the WDR Funkhausorchester Cologne and a 5.1 final mix down for a short film for a DCP at a recording studio in Germany, sound libraries and sound designer tools that will help you to gain ground in professional business. Show your skills and create a new sound track / sound design for the short film offered by SoundTrack_Cologne below!
Entry deadline for the competition is October 15, 2014.
Active students in the field of sound design/sound and/or composition at an European film and/or music school (without age limit) or creatives in the field of sound design and / or composition/music (maximum age 30) can participate in the competition.

Crowd-puller and program highlight: SoundTrack_Cologne again awards the prize for the best creation of a soundtrack to a chosen short film for young upcoming composers and sound designers in the categories WDR FILMSCORE AWARD and SOUNDDESIGN – the EUROPEAN TALENT COMPETITION. The submitted soundtracks have to present the best possible solution to serve the narration and the images of the film. For this purpose elements of pop music, jazz, electro can be used just as well as orchestral scores.
Experimental film CONTRAST:
This year, the animated experimental film CONTRAST (2013) by Carmen Büchner was selected for the competition. CONTRAST has been awarded with the „Dimension 3 Award“ in Paris and a music price of Dolby Digital Paris for the exceptional composition and the experimental sound design of composer Denise Barth in 2013. The film is like an abstract painting and, at the same time, a detailed view into the beauty of a lush flowery meadow. A closer glance beneath the scrub, however, reveals a nightmarish microcosm and a rapid fight for life and death.
For the first time in the history of the EUROPEAN TALENT COMPETITION, the organisers have decided on a rather abstract film as the competition film. The particular artistic challenge the participants have to cope with results from the freedom of creative opportunities.

WDR FILMSCORE AWARD
SoundTrack_Cologne will continue the successful co-operation of the last ten years with the WDR as part of the EUROPEAN TALENT COMPETITION. The winner of the WDR FILMSCORE AWARD will once again have the opportunity to record his or her own compositions up to a length of 7 min with the WDR Funkhausorchester Cologne – for many young European composers this is the first chance to record a kind of film music business card with a major orchestra. The recorded piece will be presented at SoundTrack_Cologne 12 in 2015. This prize is realized in cooperation with the WDR and the WDR Funkhausorchester Cologne.
EUROPEAN TALENT AWARD SOUNDDESIGN
The prize for the best SOUNDDESIGN is a 5.1 final mix down for a short film for a DCP at a recording studio. The short film will then be presented at SoundTrack_Cologne 12 in 2015. This prize is realized in cooperation with Cologne-based film sound post-production TORUS.
Entry deadline for the competition is October 15, 2014.
The twelve finalists will present their work (films, compositions) to the jury and the audience. The prize will be awarded at the official gala on 22nd November 2014.
