A) QUALIFICATION
1 | To join the European Talent Competition in the categories film music composition and sound design you have to be
a) an active student in the field of sound design / sound and/or composition at an European film and/or music school
or
b) a creative in the field of sound design and / or composition/music and not older than 30 years
2 | You are asked to attend SoundTrack_Cologne 5.0 from 20th of November to 23nd of November 2008 to discuss your contribution.
3 | By joining in the competition you receive the chance to be introduced to representatives of Sony/ATV Music Publishing
B) APPLICATION
Your application for the SoundTrack_Cologne 5.0 competition will only be processed if you
a) fill in the Application Form correctly and fully in English.
b) study in the areas of editing, sound design, sound, composing, music or not older than 30 years
c) have sent in a complete application containing your vita and photography
d) have read and accepted our participation conditions and the students' set of rules as stated
below.
C) SET OF RULES
there are no rules - except:
1. create your own sounds!
2. create your own music!
3. create your own "audiosphere" in relation to the visual world of the film! - the jury will turn her attention to the
originality of the technical, aesthetic and dramaturgical quality of the contribution
4. in the end it is your own interpretation!
5. no compilation or usage of archived music is allowed!
6. in an ideal world composer and sound designer work together - muscical composition and sound design will be judged as
two creative arts that complement one another in a significant and disctinctive way. Of course musical
elements and those of sound design can take over the function of each other.
7. that does not mean that you can not work on your own
8. send your soundtrack as an audio-file on CD until November 2nd, 2008

10. You can also submit your sound work as an mp3-/wav-file also attach your digital foto and

D) Further Regulations
SoundTrack_Cologne is the organiser of the competition "New Sound in European Film:
European Film Music Prize 2007"
which will take place during SoundTrack_Cologne 5.0.
The contestant will participate in the competition and will, within this
context, create a new soundtrack
(music/special effects / speech) for one of the following films:
Title: The Ark
Writer & Director: Grzegorz Jonkajtys
Producers: Grzegorz Jonkajtys, Marcin Kobylecki
Duration: 8 min
Date and country of production: Poland 2007
Article 1 - Transfer of Right of Use
1.1
The contestant permits SoundTrack_Cologne to
a) perform,
b) broadcast,
c) archive,
d) and in small quantities for non-commercial distribution to copy on DVD the subject of the contract which
has been processed by him during the competition as well as the documentation of the competition.
1.2.
If the version of the film processed by the contestant wins an award the contestant is entitled to use this version for personal
non-commercial promotional purposes (Show Reel, application documents etc.) in conjunction with the following credits:
"The film "title of film" processed during the young professionals' competition "New Sound in European Film: European Film
Music Prize 2008"
is used with kind permission of the owner of the rights"
1.3.
Every other use of the subject of the contract in its original version or in the relevant processed version is subject to the permission
of the holder of the rights in each case.
Article 2 - Remuneration
The contestant will receive no payment for activities carried out within the context of this contract.
Article 3 - Further Provisions
This contract shall be construed and enforced according to the laws of the German Federal Republic. No subsidiary verbal agreements have
been reached. Changes and amendments to this contract must be acknowledged in writing by both parties.
If any part of this contract is found to be partly or totally invalid or unenforceable by a court of law the validity of the remaining
sections shall not be affected.
