Call for Entries - for Music Documentaries, Artistic Films about Music
and Musicians, and Music Videos
Deadline for the submission of music documentaries, artistic films about
music and musicians, and music videos for the programme of films
featured as part of SEE THE SOUND at SoundTrack_Cologne 6.0:
15 September 20009
SoundTrack_Cologne 6.0 19-22 November 2009
Since its inception, SoundTrack_Cologne 6.0 - the German conference on
music and sound in film and the media - has developed into the leading
platform for music in film and the media in the German-speaking world.
In 2008, with SEE THE SOUND, SoundTrack_Cologne widened the scope of the
conference with an extensive programme of films, in order to bring
together the best examples of combining music and film. As part of the
film programme, the series "Bilder zum Hören - Images to be heard" and
"Cutting Edge", among others, are dedicated specifically to the genre of
artistic films about music and musicians, and music documentaries.
"Hear the Pictures! See the Music!" When Walt Disney formulated this
slogan in 1940 for "Fantasia", then the most elaborate animation film
ever made, pictures, movement and music were brought as close together
as never before in their history. The economic failure of this
monumental film reignited an old art-historical debate: Can visual art
offer a counterpart for musical experience? Can the structures of music
be depicted visually?
From Classical music all the way through to pop - SoundTrack_Cologne 6.0
now invites all those working in film, producers, and distributors, to
submit music documentaries, artistic films about music and musicians,
biopics about musicians or bands, discerning documentaries about
concerts, or portraits of bands, for its film programme. Current music
videos can also be submitted - they will, among others, be presented at
the LANGE NACHT DER MUSIKVIDEOS (the long night of music videos).
We only accept screeners in DVD format. Films and music videos whose
production was completed after 1 January 2008 can be submitted. The
presentation at other festivals or a preceding DVD release are not
exclusion criteria, but we do, however, give preference to German
premieres. Films in any industry standard format, with a duration of at
least 30 minutes, and music videos as quicktime.mov 720 x 576 PAL, will
be considered. There are no restrictions regarding country of
production. The submission form can be found below.
